Chive boxes

My wife craved chive boxes and found a recipe from The ABC Chef. It worked out well! The filling consisted of just chives, cellophane noodles, scrambled egg, dried shrimp skins and some sesame oil. The most critical element is the skin. A soft, chewy exterior is crucial. Homemade skins worked best: Jenny used a 3:1 boiling water to all-purpose dough ratio to start. It's an iterative process from there.

We tried store-bought skins similar to wonton wraps, but they didn't turn out nearly as well. We also fried up some onion pancakes and they were passable. If you have the time, though, the best is to use a homemade dough as is pictured here.

Bacon-wrapped eggs

One recent Sunday Jenny tried a bacon-wrapped egg. With just some bacon, parmesan cheese and eggs, she came up with a breakfast everyone enjoyed.

It's as easy as it looks. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Heat up the bacon on a skillet for 2-3 minutes, then curl it to line a non-stick muffin tin. Crack in an egg and top it with parmesan cheese.

Take out the tin after about 10-12 minutes. Each concoction should pop out of the cup in one piece pretty easily (yes, it will all stay together!).

Bacon Bacon--SOMA Streatfood Park, San Francisco, CA

I've been eating burritos with some regularity now for more than twenty years. Up until last week, not once has anyone inquired about a burrito I'd been eating. After picking up a California Bacon BBQ Burrito from Bacon Bacon at the SOMA Streatfood Park in San Francisco, though, it happened twice.

There's no doubt a concoction as decadent as this one deserved notice. It was a delightful combination of soft pork (shredded pork), crispy pork (bacon) and scrumptious pork (crispy pork belly). And, just to take things over the top, to assure you this ain't no burrito for wimps, this also comes with fries inside. I passed the burrito around and all four of us couldn't wait to take the next bite. So, no, I didn't get to eat as much of it as I wanted, but that gives me something to look forward to again the next time I drop by Streatfood!
